1. Who we are
Dzeal Chess (chess.dzealai.com and the Dzeal Chess app) is operated by Dzeal Private Limited, India (“we”, “us”). We are the data fiduciary for the personal data described here, under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and other applicable law.
2. What we collect
| When | What |
|---|---|
| Playing as a guest (no sign-in) | Your progress, settings and hint tokens are saved only in your browser or on your device. Nothing is sent to us. |
| Signing in with Google (optional) | From Google: your name, email address and a unique account ID. We do not receive your Google password. |
| While signed in | Your learning progress: answers marked right/wrong per level and tier, which questions you have already seen (so they don't repeat), placement result, review schedule, hint tokens, badges, your goal and settings. |
| Badges | If you switch on “Show my name on the badge”, the name you type is saved with your settings. It only appears in badge images you choose to share. Badge link previews never show your name. |
| “Notify me” (optional) | Your choice to be notified and the email address of your signed-in account. |
| Contact form | The name, email, topic and message you send us. |
| Technical data | Our hosting provider (Google) keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type and time of request, for security and reliability. |
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera data. We do not currently use advertising or analytics cookies. If we add usage statistics, adverts or payments in future versions, we will update this policy before they go live.
3. Why we use it
- To save your progress and sync it between your devices when you sign in.
- To avoid repeating questions and to schedule your daily warm-up.
- To send the “new levels” email you asked for (only if you chose “Notify me”).
- To reply to your messages and fix problems you report.
- To keep the service secure and working.
We process this data on the basis of your consent (given when you sign in, switch on an option or send us a message) and for the legitimate purpose of providing the service you asked for. You can withdraw consent at any time (see your rights).
4. Where it is stored
We use Google Firebase. Progress data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore in the Mumbai, India (asia-south1) region. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, which Google may operate from data centres outside India. Google processes this data on our behalf under its own security and privacy commitments.
5. Who we share it with
- Google (Firebase hosting, sign-in and database), only as needed to run the service.
- Apps you choose to share a badge with (for example WhatsApp or Facebook). We only open the share screen; what you post is between you and that service.
- Authorities, if the law requires it.
We never sell your personal data and we do not share it for advertising.
6. How long we keep it
- Account and progress data: until you ask us to delete your account.
- Guest data: on your device until you clear it (Settings → Reset all progress, or clearing your browser data).
- Contact messages: up to 2 years, then deleted.
- Server logs: kept by Google for a limited period under its standard settings.
7. Your rights and choices
- Access or correct your data: email us.
- Reset progress: in the app, Settings → Reset all progress.
- Delete your account and data: contact us with the topic “Delete my account and data” from the email you sign in with. We complete deletions within 30 days.
- Stop emails: press “Stop” next to the “Notify me” message in the app.
- Withdraw consent by signing out and asking us to delete your data. You can keep learning as a guest.
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights for you, as the DPDP Act allows.
- Complain to our Grievance Team (below). If you are not satisfied, you may approach the Data Protection Board of India.
8. Children
Anyone can learn on Dzeal Chess as a guest without giving us any personal data. Signing in is for users aged 18 or over, or for younger users with the verifiable consent of a parent or lawful guardian. We do not knowingly track children, show them targeted adverts or monitor their behaviour. If you believe a child has signed in without consent, contact us and we will delete the data.
9. Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Database access rules let each signed-in user read and write only their own progress; contact messages can be sent but not read back from the website. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data and will notify you and the authorities of a breach where the law requires.
10. Changes
We will post any changes here with a new “Last updated” date. If a change is significant, for example new data collection, we will tell you in the app before it applies.
